Alexander J. MacDonald

GLENELG -- Alexander J. MacDonald, 86,
of Glenelg, Guysborough County,
died Saturday, Jan. 29, in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke.

Born in Stillwater, Guysborough County, he was a son of the late W.A.C. and Lena (MacBain) MacDonald.

He had been a resident of Glenelg for the past 50 years.
He was a construction and woods worker, employed with Tidewater Construction, Canada Lumber Company and Stora Forest Industries.
He was one of the road foreman responsible for the blasting and construction of the Canso Causeway.
He was an elder of Glenelg Presbyterian Church, where he was a clerk of session for many years.
He was a member of Queens Masonic Lodge 34 and charter member of St. Mary's Male Choir.
He also served in the Reserve Army.

He is survived by two daughters,
Audrey (Mrs. Grant MacDonald), Elmsdale;
Dorothy (Mrs. Bert Morrison), Glenelg;
A son, Bill, Glenelg;
19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren;
three sisters, Anna Freund, New York;
Mary Chisholm, Hopewell;
Emma (Mrs. Joseph MacKeen), Halifax;
four brothers
Bill, New York;
Victor, Halifax;
Chalmers, Hopewell;
Walter, Stillwater.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Winnifred Whidden;
a son, John,
a grandson;
two brothers, John, Lowell.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in St. James Presbyterian Church, Sherbrooke.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Aspen.
