CAPTAIN ROBERT REID

On December 27th, there passed away at Port Hillford,
Captain Robert Reid at the age of 82 years.
He had been in failing health for over two years.
Captain Reid followed the sea until about twenty years ago.
For a number of years he was connected with
the late James T. Thompson, of Halifax, in the Labrador trading business.
On retiring from the sea, he bought out the business
of his brother, the late A.W. Reid, of Port Hillford,
which with his son he managed, until three years ago.
Surviving him are four daughters, Mrs. John Hurst, and Mrs. Frank Fleming,
Port Hillford; Mrs. Donald Johnston, Revelstoke, B.C.;
Mrs. R.E. McConnell, Sydney and one son, Havelock,
who is still conducting the business at home.
Four sisters, Mrs. Henry Tomlinson, Lynn, Mass.; Mrs. Charles Giffin,
Isaac's Harbour; Mrs. Edward Solaris, Bell, California;
one brother, David, of Port Hillford.
A brother, Captain A.C. Reid, of Isacs' Harbour predeceased him
by only three weeks. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren
and five great grandchildren. He was a member of Port Hillford Baptist Church.
Services were conducted by Pastor Herman McGrath, whose text was:
"I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith."
Interment was at Cherry Hill Cemetery
